New agreement strengthens connections and promotes research exchange opportunities for graduate students and postdocs
July 16, 2021
Vancouver, BC — Today, Mitacs and IC-IMPACTS (the India-Canada Centre for Innovative Multidisciplinary Partnerships to Accelerate Community Transformation and Sustainability) have signed a three-year agreement to support research collaborations in sectors of mutual interest, including integrated water management, safe and sustainable infrastructure, and public health. Distinguished speakers and guests from both India and Canada participated in the signing ceremony.
The goal of the three-year agreement is to encourage engagement and deepen relationships between Canadian and Indian research networks. Through mutual collaborations, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows working on IC-IMPACTS projects in either country will have the opportunity to benefit from the Globalink Research Award program, which provides a stipend for 12- to 24-week research exchanges in the other country.
Higher education and research partnerships are a critical part of the Canada-India bilateral relationship. The partnership supports Mitacs and IC-IMPACTS’ shared goal of promoting international mobility and the application of scientific knowledge in key fields.
More information about the Globalink Research Award can be found on the program page. If you have immediate questions, please reach out to Étienne Pineault, Director, International Business Development, at [email protected].

I am pleased to see the unfolding of this unique collaboration between IC-IMPACTS and Mitacs. This partnership will help provide experiential learning and research opportunities to scores of talented graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in Canada and India. Since 2013, IC-IMPACTS has created numerous programs to nurture scientific collaboration between academic and corporate sectors in Canada and India and joining hands with Mitacs will add significant synergy to this pursuit. It will also enable further trade pathways between our two innovative countries.

Today marks the beginning of an exciting partnership that will provide research exchange opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in Canada and India. Mitacs is pleased to partner with IC-IMPACTS and help advance sectors of interest for both countries through creating opportunities for researchers and fostering international connections.
