Tuesday, March 29, 2022 – The University of British Columbia has announced the recipients of the 2021 Faculty Research Awards and IC-IMPACTS CEO and Scientific Director, Prof. Nemy Banthia, has been named as the recipient of the Jacob Biely Research Prize.

UBC’s highest research accolade is awarded to Dr. Banthia in recognition of his distinguished record of research which has contributed substantially to the university’s stature as a leading research institution. The prestigious award is regarded as UBC’s premier award for research.

The UBC Faculty Research Awards recognize the research excellence and scholarly achievements of faculty from across all disciplines, ranging from medicine and applied and natural sciences to arts, social sciences and humanities. Recipients span from early career researchers to senior members of faculty. Winners were selected by UBC’s Faculty Research Award Committee.

I am extremely honoured to be receiving the Jacob Biely Prize. UBC’s Top Research Prize also truly belongs to the exceptional graduate students that I have been fortunate to work with.

The Jacob Biely Faculty Research Prize was established in 1969 and is regarded as UBC’s premier award for research across all disciplines. The award is named after eminent researcher and professor, Jacob Biely, who joined UBC Faculty on a full-time basis in 1935 as an Instructor in the Department of Poultry Science. Prof. Biely became Head of the Department of Poultry Science and held the position until his retirement in 1968.

The prize is awarded annually to a UBC faculty member for a distinguished record of research that has contributed substantially to UBC’s stature as a leading research institution. All fields of research are eligible. For more information, please visit UBC Research + Innovation.
