IC-IMPACTS, in a collaboration with the Canada-India Centre for Excellence, Carleton University, Ottawa and the IIT Alumni Association of BC, present the 2020 Dhahan Lecture:

A SAGA OF INCLUSIVE, SUSTAINABLE AND FRUGAL INNOVATIONS FROM AND FOR GRASSROOTS: LESSONS FROM THE HONEY BEE NETWORK

By Professor Anil Gupta

Frugal Innovations are important not just because of material and institutional constraints but also to conserve the environment and reduce entropy. Frugality is not just for the customers but also for the Mother Earth. Most scholars and corporate leaders have not appreciated enough the need to operate at the intersection of inclusivity, frugality & sustainability. The talk based on the work by the Honey Bee Network over the last three decades will include many more lessons from Shodhyatras organised by SRISTI and incubation of grassroots innovations done by Gian in India. Idea is to motivate more and more stakeholders to engage with the Honey Bee Network to give increased visibilityvoice and velocity to the ideas and values of grassroots innovators. We look to collaborate further with universities to share some of our discoveries and adapt it for Canada as well as learn from local creative communities including indigenous groups and scholars in Canada. Some of our databases are available in open access.
