Ms. Archita Borah

Archita Borah is a Master of Applied Science (MASc) candidate in Civil Engineering, and specializing in Environmental Systems Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Pierre Bérubé. For her masters’ thesis, she is designing optimized and efficient biofiltration systems for rural communities using Biological Ion Exchange (BIEX). In 2020 and 2019, she won the Wastewater treatment award and Environmental Engineering research award respectively, and also worked as a UBC Sustainability Scholar (2020 & 2019) with Metro Vancouver wherein she reviewed stormwater treatment systems around the Pacific Northwest and GHG emissions from the Annacis Island Wastewater treatment plant. Archita has been involved with the BCWWA UBC Student Chapter in the capacity of an academic coordinator, helping organize weekly seminars and networking events for graduate students of ESE and professionals working in the water sector.

Archita is passionate about sustainable engineering, indigenous water issues, water treatment, mine waste management, climate change, and socio-economic equity. In her free time, she volunteers as a mentor to undergraduate students in India for applications to graduate schools abroad and advocates for social equity and support for the LGBTQ+ family. She enjoys cooking, reading fiction, spending time with friends and family, and relishing the beauty of Vancouver.
