IC-MPACTS Board Chair Barj Dhahan and his wife Rita have pledged to donate $150,000 to Royal Roads University to create an award for underrepresented students. Royal Roads will match the donation, raising the award to $300,000.
The Budh Singh and Kashmir Kaur Dhahan Award honours Barj’s parents, philanthropists who supported the advancement of higher education. The bi-annual Dhahan award will assist students such as single mothers, international students, and indigenous students to access educational opportunities.
A graduate of the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Regent College, Barj has long been active in charitable work. In 2016, he worked with UBC to create a $400,000 scholarship fund to provide support to indigenous students during their four-year study programs.
Barj is the founder and chief executive officer of Sandhurst Group of Companies and currently serves as Board Chair of IC-IMPACTS and is a former board member of Royal Roads University, where he now serves on the Fellows Council.
