On February 21, 2018, IC-IMPACTS, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India signed a joint work plan for the rejuvenation of River Ganga. On February 21 and 22, IC-IMPACTS, the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi and DBT held a two-day scoping workshop in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, for Canadian and Indian researchers to develop the plan for this project. The workshop in Varanasi led to the launch of a Call for Proposals for a pilot demonstration.
The pilot demonstration for the rejuvenation of River Ganga will establish cost-effective and space-efficient solutions that can be implemented on a larger scale. This living laboratory is a collaboration that will demonstrate international research and solutions to effectively clean large water systems, particularly in Canada and India.
