IC-IMPACTS’ Associate Scientific Director and Theme Lead for Integrated Water Management, Dr. Sushanta Mitra, and his team of researchers has developed a rapid water monitoring sensor that can detect a small amount of E.coli (a common pathogen) in water. The key aspect of this sensor technology is the ability to detect the presence of E.coli within about 10-15 minutes. Compared to traditional assay based techniques which can take between 24-48 hours, this new technology can dramatically improve response times to pathogen outbreak and presence in water and help water managers and individuals to know when water is safe or not to drink.
