Variable rate application of nutrients by developing nutrient estimation sensor and precision spraying mechanism

At Dalhousie University, Dr. Ahmad Al-Mallahi is leading an ambitious project that could transform the way nutrients are applied in agriculture. By developing a new sensing and actuation system, his team aims to precisely detect plant and soil nutrient levels and apply fertilizers only where and when needed. This approach minimizes waste, reduces environmental impact, and ensures healthier crops. With a budget of CAD $25,000, the project focuses on balancing innovation with sustainability, helping farmers make smarter use of their resources.
