Extraction of protein from brewer’s spent grain for human and animal consumption

What if a by-product from beer making could help fight hunger? That’s the question driving Dalhousie University’s Dr. Chijoke Emenike. His team is transforming brewer’s spent grain — an abundant organic waste — into high-value protein fractions for both human and animal consumption. This innovative process not only addresses food insecurity but also promotes a circular economy by giving waste a new life. The CAD $25,000 funding will help advance the technology toward real-world application.
