It is with a heavy heart that we write to you today.

We were shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the fatal Ukrainian Airline plane crash on January 8, 2020, which happened in Tehran and claimed the lives of all 176 individuals on board, including 138 passengers headed to Canada.

Everyone at IC-IMPACTS felt an even greater sense of loss when we learned of the passing of Ms. Nasim Rahmanifar, a talented young woman pursuing graduate studies in mechanical engineering at the University of Alberta. Nasim was a dedicated researcher who worked with our colleagues, Dr. Hossein Rouhani and Dr. Chester Ho, on the project titled “Wearable Technology to Monitor Sitting Posture and Reduce the Pressure Injury Risk.”

On behalf of the entire team at IC-IMPACTS Centres of Excellence, we would like to express our deepest condolences to Nasim’s family and friends for this heartbreaking tragedy. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of all other passengers who are mourning the loss of loved ones.

Sincerely,

Barj Dhahan, Chair of the Board of Directors                                   Nemy Banthia, CEO and Scientific Director
