IC-IMPACTS Welcomes Dr. Michael Serpe as the new theme lead for Integrated Water Management

IC-IMPACTS would like to formally welcome Dr. Michael Serpe as the new Associate Director and Theme Lead for Integrated Water Management. Dr. Serpe is an Associate Professor at the University of Alberta primarily advancing polymer-based materials to solve problems associated with health and the environment.

Dr. Serpe takes over the role from Dr. Thomas Thundat, a Canada Excellence Research Chair at the University of Alberta.  Dr. Thomas’ research is focused on novel physical, chemical and biological detection of using micro- and nano -mechanical sensors. His expertise lies in the areas of interfaces, biophysics, scanning probes, nanoscale phenomena and quantum confined atoms.

We would like to thank Dr. Thundat for his exceptional leadership and his outstanding work on growing the IC-IMPACTS Water research theme. We welcome Dr. Serpe who’s passion and energy will take the theme forward in exciting new directions.
