IC-IMPACTS Centres of Excellence in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology, India (DST), and the Department of Biotechnology, India (DBT) have committed to fund new research projects focusing on the resilience of buildings and cleaning large bodies of water. IC-IMPACTS will soon be launching the following calls for proposals:
The new calls will provide platforms for bilateral academic and industry collaborations and will continue to create new market pathways and improve lives in Canada and India. This will be IC-IMPACTS third call for proposals for projects bilaterally funded by DST and DBT. IC-IMPACTS CEO and Scientific Director, Dr. Nemy Banthia, met with the Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Biotechnology in India earlier this year to discuss the details of the calls.
IC-IMPACTS initially partnered with DST and DBT in 2015 to support collaborative research projects on infrastructure, water, and health; $3.7 million was invested to fund 9 projects working on innovative health, infrastructure and water technologies. A second collaboration was formed in 2016, when IC-IMPACTS, DST and DBT committed $4 million for 10 new research projects in Smart and Green Buildings for Sustainable Cities and Portable Devices and Analyzers. Following the call for proposals, applications from across Canada and India were received and after a rigorous review process, 10 projects were selected and approved for funding.
Collaborative projects between Canada and India bring research experts, industry leaders, and community members from both sides to form practical solutions to challenges faced by communities. To date, IC-IMPACTS has supported 38 unique research projects across Canada and India. These opportunities significantly deepen the bilateral ties between Canada and India.
