Shapoor Marfatia joined IC-IMPACTS as Chief Operating Officer in 2017 after a long tenure at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, and Tata Motors, Mumbai.
Shapoor has worked on technology transfers, product development and marketing in India. His efforts at Kirloskar Equipment, Pune, resulted in the introduction of modern Silo systems in India. Later, Shapoor worked with Tata Motors on strategic product development and large-scale contracts with the PMO and Defense agencies in India, including Tata armoured vehicles for the PMO, Delhi, and Special vehicles used by paramedics, military and foreign deployments.
Shapoor immigrated to Canada in 2006 and completed an MBA from the Sauder School of Business. He later worked in Canada for Nissan Motors, Mississauga, and for UBC and SFU, both in Vancouver. As the Director of Business Development at UBC, Shapoor managed several international engagements and collaborative programs, including with Northeast Normal University, China, Borderless Higher Education for Refugees (Kenya project, funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development), SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai, and Ritsumeikan University, Japan.
Shapoor believes building international collaborative ties among organizations, governments, industries, businesses and individuals brings together rich, diverse views that strengthen partnerships, which can lead to innovative solutions that transform lives. He holds a Bachelor of Technology in Aeronautical Engineering and Master of Technology in Interdisciplinary Reliability Engineering from India’s prestigious IIT, Bombay.
