Mr. Lajpat (Laj) Prasher has served as the chairman of the Tortel Group of Companies since 2007. His previous involvement was as President of Tortel Communications Inc. from 1990 – 2007, and President of Tortel USA from 1998 – 2007. Prior to Tortel, Mr. Prasher spent 11 years (1978 – 89) at Northern Telecom in various departments and with increasing levels of responsibility in management. He is a registered professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario since 1993. Mr. Prasher earned his Bachelor of Technology at Ryerson Institute of Technology in Toronto 1978 and is accredited for Professional Engineering Status in Ontario at the University of Toronto 1989.

Mr. Prasher is an active and founding board member of the Canada India Centre for Excellence in Science and Technology at Carleton University, and was a member of the Board of Directors (1996) of Canada India Business Council and severed as National Convener of Canadian India Foundation for 2013-2015 Term. Mr. Prasher is also a Life Member of the Indo Canada Ottawa Business Chamber. Mr. Prasher accompanied Prime Minister Jean Chretien in 1995, and Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2012, on their Trade Missions to India, to promote Canada India Friendship and to enhance the Trade between both nations. He is known for his leadership in developing important opportunities for future partnerships.

Mr. Prasher contributes to his local community through a number of charitable organizations such as Sick Kids Foundation, Royal Victoria Hospital, Wayne Gretzky Foundation, Free the Children, the King City Food Bank, York Regional Police Association, and Festival of India. The latest Charitable initiatives of Mr. Prasher are: to help the organization known as “ASSIST Community Services Centre” for new Immigrant in Edmonton; and to provide financial help towards Marriage expenses of needy females at his Village in India.
