Tuesday, May 31, 2022 – IC-IMPACTS is proud to announce the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors, who with a long track record of leading innovative and diverse teams, will bring decades of experience in corporate leadership. Effective April 1, 2022, Krista Connell, Anita Huberman, and Alexandra Otis will serve as IC-IMPACTS Board of Directors supporting the organization’s work to build healthy communities in Canada and India.

“We are extremely excited to expand our Board with new members who will bring diverse expertise and additional insight to our work” said Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Barj Dhahan. “We have worked diligently to ensure that IC-IMPACTS Board and leadership represent a variety of experts, with experience in international relations, commercialization, and research innovation. The newest Board members are no exception to that.”

About the New Board Members:

Krista Connell is the President and CEO of Fertiloam Inc., a firm she launched in 2019 to allow her to pursue her interests and to continue to contribute to the health and research sectors in Canada. She currently serves the research and broader community as a member of Saint Mary’s University Animal Care Committee and the Nova Scotia Centre on Aging Advisory Board at Mount Saint Vincent University. Krista has received the Canadian Progress Club of Halifax Women of Excellence Award in the Management and Professions Category in 2012. She has been named as the 2013 WXN Canada’s Most Powerful Women and received the Top 100 Award in the Public Sector Category; and was named one of Atlantic Canada’s Top 50 CEOs by Atlantic Business Magazine in 2014.

Anita Huberman is the President & CEO of the Surrey Board of Trade. In 2021, she was announced as 1 of 15 Outstanding Canadians for her work in the private sector through the pandemic. She is an Honorary Captain of the Royal Canadian Navy (appointed by Canada’s Minister of National Defence), holds the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, was a Business in Vancouver Top 40 Under 40, awarded the 2019 Surrey Community Builder of the Year and received a Canada 150 Community Medal.  She serves on the Board of Directors for the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT), Premier’s Economic Recovery Task Force, BC Economic Development Minister Industry Engagement Table, SFU President’s and SFU India Advisory Councils, OMNI TV Advisory Council, and Destination BC Advisory Council.

Alexandra Otis, RD MSc, is a registered dietician and is pursuing a PhD in public health with a specialization in global health at University of Montreal. She completed her undergraduate studies in Nutrition and has a Masters in Global Health. Alexandra’s research interests include social justice, health equity, vaccination, food security and capacity building for students and young professionals in global health. She strives to use allyship to learn from the expertise of marginalized groups by working in solidarity with them to understand how to act on systems and causes of inequities.
